Day One. Arrival Paro Valley airport. A short drive around the valley on the way to the hotel. Welcome tea and introduction of the team, a brief talk about the tour program, the culture and tradition of the country. After lunch visit the Paro Dzong(fortress) built in 1645, it was in this fortress the famous Hollywood movie Little Buddha was made. We'll meet the monks and see some temples. Evening walk through the Paro Bazaar and see the lifestyle of the Bhutanese people. Dinner and Bhutanese cuisines introduction, watch out for the "Ema –Datsi", the hot fiery chilly curry with cottage cheese. Night at the hotel. Overnight Paro. Hotel Olathang( cottages in the pine forest).
Day Two. After breakfast we drive to the old capital of Bhutan, Punakha. On the way we stop for tea at Dochula pass (3,140 meters) where we'll see 108 chortens perched on the mountain side with the view of the snow capped Eastern Himalayas at the back ground. Have lunch further in the valley. After lunch we drive to the valley floor and stop at Chime Lhakang which is the fertility monastery. Time to stretch our feet and take a walk through the paddy fields to the temple, get blessed with a giant phallus!!!!! It is a great village walk which I am sure you will really enjoy. Evening to the hotel. Visit the dzong. Overnight Punakha. Zangtopelri Hotel/ Meri Puensum Resort.
Day Three. After breakfast we spend the time at leisure, we’ll visit the famous Punakha dzong built in 1638 between two rivers called the phochu (male) and mochu (female) river. The dzong is one of the most beautiful examples of the Bhutanese Architect, after that a walk across the longest suspension bridge in the country, have a picnic lunch by the river, after lunch hike up to the Khamsum Yuelling Namgyel Chorten. Evening walk through the village. Leisure time at the Khuruthang town. Overnight Punakha.( Hike time 3 hours) Hotel Zangtopelri/Meri Puensum Resort.
Day Four. After breakfast we begin our journey to Phobjekha (also known as the valley of the black necked cranes which is one of the most endangered birds in the world). Along the way we’ll stop ar Rinchengang village. Lunch at the restaurant in the village. We’ll reach Phobjekha in the late afternoon. We’ll visit the beautiful Gangtey goenpa which is newly renovated, and the most intricate hand carvings can be seen in this temple. It is festaival in Phobjekha so you’ll see lots of people dressed in their best attires in the monastery. After that a valley walk to the hotel. The valley of Phobjekha is one of the prettiest valleys in Bhutan. The Swiss people called it a little Switzerland. Overnight Phobjekha. Hotel Dewachen/ Thegchen Podrang.
Day Five. After a hearty breakfast we’ll join the village people who’ll be dressed in their best attires to go and witness the festival.There will be lots of dancing and singing. Lunch at the courtyard of the monastery. After lunch we walkto the village and see the lifestyle of the people.Evening at the hotel.Overnight Phobjekha. Hotel Dewachen/Thegchen Phodrang.
Day Six. After breakfast Morning drive to Thimphu crossing the Dochula pass, stop at the Chorten and enjoy the views of the Himalayas . Lunch at Thimphu . Check in the hotel. After lunch visit the Thimphu Dzong and witness the festival in the open arena. The festival here is different for the one in Phobjekha. Afternoon leisure time on your own. Overnight Thimphu. Hotel Jumolhari/Hotel Riverview.
Day Seven. After breakfast Visit the traditional handmade paper factory, The Institute of Traditional medicine and, Textile Museum-the institute of the 13 crafts of the country. Go to the zoo to see Takin, which is Bhutan’s national animal. Have lunch, after lunch visit the Post Office and to the big Buddha statue and enjoy the bird’s eye view of the capital city. Walk to the radio tower to see the bird’s eye view of the capital city. Evening drive to Paro. The drive is 1 hour. Overnight Paro, Hotel Olathang/ Hotel Gangtey palace.
Day Eight. Today we are hiking up to the tigers nest. It is called Taktsang Monastery. The monastery is perched on the cliff side 900 meters above the valley floor and it has even raised eyebrows of the famous architects and engineers from all over the world. The walk will take us around 3 hours to the monastery. After visiting the temples, we'll return back to the cafeteria for Lunch. The benches are placed in the sun facing the tigers nest so you'll enjoy the view while having your lunch. After lunch return back to the base where our bus will be waiting. Drive to the valley. Evening time on your own for last minute shopping and packing. Dinner with my family. Talk about the tour and feed back. Night at the hotel. Overnight Paro.5 hours walking.Hotel Olathang/Hotel Gangtey Palace.
Day Nine. After breakfast your personal guide and driver will see you off to the airport. Wish you a safe flight home!!!
